Service Type: Direct (Volunteering at the local Senior Dining Center)
After learning about the importance of nutrition in their science, math and spanish classes, students will help to provide hot, nutritious lunches on Friday (the last day in the unit), for adults age 60 and older. Students will take a field trip to The Joslyn Senior Nutrition Program in Escondido to join the local seniors for lunch. This Senior Dining Center not only promotes better nutrition (focus of our integrated unit), but helps to reduce the isolation of many older adults who may live alone. Upon returning to school after the lunch, students will meet in the computer lab to upload their photos and work on their reflections.
